Fast Rust Task

Rust

Walt: Synthesize information from multiple resources.

Task

What 3 ingredients are needed for rust to occur.

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)

When oxygen from the air mixes with water and is placed on an iron surface. Slowly the iron reacts with the oxygen mixed with water therefore creating iron oxide. When Iron oxide mixes with the water it creates hydrated Iron oxide also known as (Rust). Fact: When you add table salt/sodium chloride to this process the reaction will move a lot faster. You don’t have to add salt it will just help if you wanted to speed up your process.

How could you prevent something from rusting?

If you wanted to protect iron from getting rusted some things you could use is oil, Zinc/Zn or paint. Oil can help because when coated over iron it stops oxygen from getting in. Another way is by galvanising. This means to coat Zinc over iron and only the zinc will be affected but you can easily wash it of. You could also use a coating of paint to stop water from getting into cracks to stop or to slow down the rusting process.

One thing I learnt during my reading was the process of how rusting works. Another thing I learnt was the three ingredients used to make rust, they are air, oxygen and iron. Greater amounts of rust can be found in different environments. e.g There is a greater amount of rust near the sea.

It was raining that day when Jeremy, Kane and Freddie went hiking at Whitmore's Rainforest. They always went hiking and liked to see new places. Travelling was apart of them. It was the first time any of them had been to Whitmore's Rainforest, so they were really excited to explore this new and exotic place. As they hiked higher and higher Jeremy ask “can we take a break, we’ve been walking for hours” even though they started about half an hour ago. “Sure” said Kane as he sat down and starting sipping his water.

Freddie needed to go to the toilet, so of he went. While he was peeing he heard rustling coming from a bush behind him so he went to check it out. A hairy hand popped out of the bush and grab his shirt. Before he knew it he was being drag away from his friends. Freddie screamed like a little girl so that his friends could hear him. It was too late, by the time his friends came they had only caught a glimpse of the hairy beast.

They searched everywhere for him but he was nowhere to be found. Until Jeremy yelled out to Kane “ I found something”  After Kane had seen it he knew straight away that it was Freddie’s. It was his blue and red Nike bag that he wore everyday, when they lifted the bag they saw a huge foot print in the ground. The next item they found was his socks and shoes. It was like Freddie was leaving a trail behind so that his friends could find him.

Suddenly, they heard Freddie screaming from the top of the mountain and as they quickly ran up they saw black smoke rising into the sky.They finally made it up the mountain and saw Freddie lying on the ground. He was in pain. While the hideous beast was distracted by the fire he created Kane and Jeremy took Freddie back down the mountain. They heard a loud roar that got closer and closer. Jeremy started getting scared but Kane told him “ Keep running we're nearly there, the rangers hut is just past these trees”.

Jeremy’s feet had other plans, he twisted his ankle and tripped making all of them fall down Kane yelled at him “you idiot we’re all going to die now”  Jeremy replied “at least we're all going to die together”. As the beast closed in on them they had finally recognised who it was it was Bigfoot, The snow beast people usually prefer to as the last living Yeti. Bigfoot got closer and was just about to ripped them all into pieces.

Bang!! Bang!! Bigfoot had fallen right in front of the three men and standing behind it was the ranger. He had just saved their lives. After that he called the ambulance, animal control, the police and anything else who could think of. Soon the rainforest was crawling with news reporters, policemen, scientist and firemen. There was no fire they just wanted to see a real life Bigfoot.

Finally the men were rushed to hospital where they were taken care of for two weeks, the Whitmore’s Rainforest was closed for further inspection, the ranger instantly became famous for taking down the almighty yeti and the yeti went with the scientist for biological research.

On a cold night Matt and Carrie had just finish from a hard days work.  Matt the owner of the farm was preparing a nice cup of coffee while Carrie (the daughter) went outside into the barn to check on the pigs as it was her last chore. When suddenly, she heard screaming coming from the mountain. She quickly ran back inside to tell her father Matt, that she had heard someone in trouble on the mountain.

So Carrie and her father Matt rushed to the mountain with a flashlight. When they got there Matt said ”There’s nothing here sweetheart” “but I heard something” Carrie replied. Carrie told her father to be quiet. She felt something slithering on her foot and she jump with fright. Her father had flashed the light to see it was only a tree vine.

She snatched the light and flashed it behind herself. A loud GASP came from her as she found an old tree that was grown into the shape of a man. When she turned back around her father had disappeared. Before she knew it she was being drag closer and closer to the tree. Luckily she still had the flashlight. She shined the light on the thing and caught a glimpse of what looked like a living vine.

Carrie had no weapon, no clue to where her father was and no idea of what to do, before she knew it she was being pulled inside the tree into an underground tunnel. Carrie thought to herself. She had realized where she was because she remembered it from a dream. The day after her mother disappeared. As they sat there in the dark the a very old woman lurked in the shadows. Carrie was frightened for a while until she saw a shiny silver necklace hanging around the woman's neck.

Carrie and her father quickly got up to introduce themselves but the woman had already known who they were.   Her father quickly realised who she was, Carrie had remembered her from her mother's funeral “Aunt Adeline” said Carrie as she rushed to hug her. “Why are you here” commented her father. “I have been guarding the tree of knowledge it is in our family’s honour to protect it”.

“Who was screaming” said Carrie. “It was me” replied Aunt Adeline. She had to get Carrie to come over to the tree so that she could start teaching her about her family’s past. The reason Aunt Adeline stayed here was because of Diana, Carrie's mother. When a guardian dies another is born. Rosie was the next in line.

Over the years Carrie grew and fought off time keepers, Speedsters, monsters and a lot more all to protect the Tree of Knowledge. Until her Aunt died she knew it was time to find her younger cousin Yvonne. It was her turn to train a younger family member, so that the family commitment would carry on for years.

Clown Cake

It was pouring that night at old Mcgee’s farm, Rosie ( the farmer's daughter ) went outside into the barn to check on the pigs when suddenly she heard sounds coming from upstairs. She quickly ran back inside to tell her father James (Mr Mcgee) that she had heard suspicious sounds from upstairs in the barn.

So Rosie and her father James went to the barn with a flashlight but when they got there, there was nothing. “There’s nothing here sweetheart” said her father “but I heard something” Rosie said back to him. Rosie told her father to be quiet because she had heard the sound again, but this time it sounded like it was coming from behind her.

She flashed the light behind her and there was nothing to be seen but as she turned around to see her father gone something had grabbed her arm. Before she knew it she was being drag out of the barn and into the house. Luckily she still had the flashlight. She shined the light on the thing and caught a glimpse of what looked like a hideous clown.

Rosie had no weapon no clue to where her father was and no idea of what to do, until she crabbed her flashlight firmly and threw it at the clowns face but when the hideous clown screamed with pain she had realized it was her father with straw in his hair. When they got inside the house Rosie got an ice pack for her father while her father explained everything.

He told her the the suspicious sound she heard was a secret for her birthday and the reason he had dragged her out was because he did not want her to find out. She had forgotten about her Birthday because of all the commotion. Seeing as it was one in the morning her father decided to give it to her. So out of his jacket he pulled a frightened little puppy.

After she had thanked her father she took her puppy upstairs to dry him of. Then her mother Perri walked into her room with a birthday cake and accidentally dropped it on the floor. Then the puppy ran down and started to eat the cake, so Rosie decided to name him Cake.

Hiwi The Kiwi

Yesterday Point England School had a very special visitor come to their school. It was the Hiwi the Kiwi show with two hosts Mr and Mrs Minstrel. They taught us a lot about how to keep the sea and its creatures safe for future generations. We had also learnt a ton of songs and how long fishes are suppose to be when you fish them out of sea.

One thing I learnt was to always wear a life jacket and to fish for the future, I had heaps of fun and I cant wait to see them again.

Pentathlon

On the last day of school I have been forced to read about the Winter Learning Journey, we had to choose a sport that was played over 2000 years ago. At first I thought this was going to be boring but then I found out I was wrong.

The sport I chose Pentathlon, it is Greek meaning Pent is five and athlon is competition (Five Competitions). This sport used to included running, long jump, javelin and wrestling but now some of it has changed now it involves shooting, swimming, fencing, equestrianism, and cross country running.

Rio Olympics 2016 Narrative

This year's 2016 Olympic Games are being held in Rio De janeiro and we are coming up to our 11th event which is Women's Archery. Representing France, Sophie Argue and from Greece,  Arianna Galatas. We also have the last olympics women's archery winner all the way from Korea, Georgia Kyeon.

Last time she was here she had blinded her right eye. This had happened when she released an arrow near her eyeball, causing the arrow to cut her eye. The unfortunate setback gave her opponents an enormous advantage, which made her feel further away from the gold medal.

Luckily after the arrow had cut her eye it had hit the bullseye making her win first place. But this year like all the other contestants she has been training for four years and has qualified to play in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Scores had been getting higher and higher, 63, 67, 79 and 85. Next up, was Sophie Argue from France who was coming in first with a score of 94 points. Not soon after Korea prepared to go after Arianna Galatas from Greece.

Surprisingly Arianna had scored 87 points, putting her in second place but as the audience's silence filled the stadium they waited for Georgia.  As the words “ Georgia Kyeon please take your mark on the platform” flew through the stadium. It was time for her to take her one eyed shot. . .  

Just as she was going to shoot she hesitated. She remembered about last years incident and accidentally discharged the bullet like arrow.  As it sliced through the air the crowd slowly stood up and the disappointment in Georgia’s face was heartbreaking.

Then a loud thump had echoed all the way into Georgia's ears. She looked up while the crowd had cheered for her, then she scanned for the leader board and saw that she had scored 93 points putting her in second place. Georgia cried with tears of joy knowing that she had tried her best.

At the end Georgia held her medal high and was proud to represent her country even while coming in second place.

This story is not true it is a narrative which has been created by my imagination.

Stage 6 Maths

The Transformation

Ring! Ring! Rang the bell. As Mr Famine put his glasses on a stack of two old books he said “don’t forget to write your stories about a mythical creature in the weekend”. “You all need to practice” he said as all his year nine students ran out of his class. Unfortunately before they could escape he called out four names. “Xavier! Abigail! Grace! and Leo!” Xavier was a tall male who all the girls admired when he flipped his long brown hair. Abigail was a smart, geeky looking girl who always won first place academically. Grace was crazy with crazy hair, and Leo was the naughtiest boy in the school.

“Late again“ said Mr Famine. “All three of you are starting to fail this class, except for you Abigail!” Mr Famine carried on speaking, “I want you three to work with Abigail in the weekends or else you will fail my class”. As they walked home they argued for a long time about what they were going to write about because if they didn’t finish this paper they would all be expelled, except for Abigail. Finally they all agreed to go to Abigail’s house to study at five thirty.

When that time came, nobody showed up and almost two hours had passed. Abigail felt sad when no one came, until she received a text saying ‘YOU HAVE TO COME TO THE CEMETERY SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO GRACE…’ Abigail had to run through an alleyway to find the cemetery at the end of the road. As she walked closer she saw a glowing light and walked guardedly as she went closer. Next to the glowing light stood Leo and Xavier. "What's happening to her?" said Abigail, as gusts of winds started to circle around them. "We don't know. Her parents didn't want her to come, but she snuck out and came with us. We tried to come to your house a faster way but we got lost coming here" Leo explained loudly!

Gracie was lying on the floor next to a gravestone, but not long after, she started to float up in the air. As Abigail read the name on the stone the person who had died must have been related to Grace because they both had the same last name ‘Bite De Sang’, which Abigail knew was French for Blood Bite.

The next thing the three teens saw was a flash of light. Grace fell to the ground but she was ok. The four teenagers quickly ran home in the dark. Before they reached Abigail’s house, a light bulb idea entered Leo’s head. “Hey guys!” he shouted. “I have a great idea for our mythical writing paper!”.

Language Features

Show not Tell

As I entered the room with giant like bath tubs the little hand was on the one and the big one was on twelve. In my board shorts, t-shirt and red and blue sandals I felt a sudden rush of hot air blown into my face with the scent of chlorine. Screams of laughter reached my ears while splashes of water caught my eye.

My heart started pounding so I leaped in the air to end up in the freezing water. I could no longer bare the cold water, so I reach out and grabbed the metallic poles linked together, step by step I made it out safely. The next pool I had chosen wasn't cold nor hot it was just right, this time I did not jump, I slowly walked in and sat on the third 18 to 38 degree step.

Later the word boredom like unattached cobwebs flew, in my head so I tried a swimming technique where my head stuck out of the water and my torso did not rotate. I gave it my best  but lower I sank. I’ll try it next time cause the little hand was on two and the big one was on twelve and it was time to get change.

History of the Waka

Making Connections

Last week my group Aoraki and I had a session where we read a journal about war, sadness, lost, death, regret and more. Then after that we sat together and talked about the connections that made these stories link. Here is a picture of me and my partner Jordan explaining one of the links in the journal.

i luminate

Last week on Tuesday an amazing group of dancers called i luminate came to Point England School to perform their incredible light show to us. The three performers names are Lisa, Matt and Danny.

They performed to us in the dark so that we could see the lights clearly, my favourite part of everything was listening to the incredible remix they had made, they played really cool songs like Fancy, Talk Dirty and a lot more hip hop like songs. Everything was amazing from the songs to the choreography

What I was most interested in was what they wore, they wore black pants and jumpers with wires in them that were programmed to flash at certain times. There was a man named Bob who help make the lights work, he sat on the side of the stage doing almost everything behind the scenes.

After they performed the Yr 7 & 8's had a chance to ask them question like where else have they travelled, who is your role model, where do you live what version dab do you like and a lot more. Soon later it was getting close to three o'clock and I had to stand up and say a thank you on behalf of the school. Afterwards I think that there message to us (Point England School) was to dream big and to not give up.

I thought that it was amazing and very well thought out, I was really interested on how their costumes worked.
